CREATIVE-IN-RESIDENCE

SYLA STUDIO hosts visual, literary, and curatorial residencies to build a conscious creative community. Through an online residency, we facilitate a space to expand narratives through the digital realm and encourage creative freedom to form dynamic projects on a global scale.

Veronica Elizabeth Thomas is a Philadelphia-based poet, activist, writer, editor, cultural curator, and founder of Call + Response Journal. Her creative work revolves around themes of Black femininity and Africana culture, trauma, and religion through a womanist lens.

Thomas studied Africology and African American Studies and English at Temple University. Her previous speaking engagements include NYC Creative Salon and Black History Untold. Her interests include art, poetry + prose, Africana cultural studies and aesthetics, and her biggest inspirations are found in the pages of Toni Morrison’s work.
