We tell ourselves stories constantly yet, unconsciously. They are reflected in how we live our lives and we constantly pull feedback from the world around us to either validate or inform existing stories or to create new storylines. My work is a reflection of this unconscious process. Guided by intuition and a process that focuses on mindfulness, each multi-media collage is a non-linear story made of fragments sourced from cast-off materials from the world around me that are manipulated and reassembled. The collaged paintings are colorful and expressive, featuring gestural strokes, mark-making and various found papers representing ephemeral thoughts, visions, and experiences.

K’era is a Los Angeles-based mixed media artist who currently has a penchant for small works on paper.

Her current mixed media work is heavily influenced by tribal/global textile surface design, mark-making as well as the craft of quiltmaking. In fact, she considers the act of ‘’piecing together’’ her collaged paintings that include found paper sourced from magazines, newspapers, and books as well as hand-painted paper much like the process of quilting together a story.

In addition to her collage work as well as a new found love of painting murals and designing printed textiles for clients, K’era collaborates with one of the few remaining American mills to transform her multimedia pieces into colorful woven throw blankets made of 100% hand-dyed cotton for home interiors. Cozy, casual and comfortable, the woven throws are an extension of K’era’s affinity for quilts and functional art made for everyday use and enjoyment.
